ICT in Teaching & Learning Amidst CoVID-19

ICT in Teaching & Learning Amidst CoVID-19

I think, the global pandemic of CoVID-19 has given opportunities to explore new ways of teaching and learning for us. Although, the network connectivity in some of the remote places of the country is poor, we had been trying to cope up with the rest to survive this new way of learning from online. The new ways we could try is with Zoom conference and Big Blue Button which has proven to be effective in delivering the sessions in other RUB colleges.

We are aware that these days, life has become more important than education, but then, as we are in the verge of graduating, it is somehow disheartening that we could not complete this very last semester of the college learning in college. Nevertheless, we and I personally am trying my best to cope with the classes amidst vast challenges of learning from home.

A pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan, China, was first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. The disease was later declared as Corona Virus similar to SARS. WHO officially declared it a Public health concern on 30th January, 2020. Later, after growing infections in not only Wuhan but to the global population, the WHO on 11th March, 2020, declared it as a Pandemic.

Since then, CoVID-19 has affected millions globally with 1,812,734 people infected, and over 113,675 confirmed deaths so far. Bhutan was also affected with the virus with all the cases being imported. However, to tackle the community outbreak, Bhutan government has closed all its educational institutions. Commercial and economic activities have been severely affected with thousands of businesses running into huge loss. Thousands has lost jobs and their livelihood.

However, His Majesty the King is the forefront of combating the virus personally. I think the Kidu of HM and the Economic Stimulus Plan of the Government will tackle if not all but some of the issues faced in the nation.

In my opinion, the move by the Royal Government of Bhutan to close all educational institutions has saved Bhutan from the pandemic. However, the style of education has shifted from traditional way of classroom teaching to the virtual teaching and learning. This new experience of teaching and learning has issued both the teachers as well as the students with new challenges as well as opportunities.
